Extended Information
Linseed oil
, also known as flaxseed oil or flax oil, is a colourless to yellowish oil obtained from the dried, ripened seeds of the flax plant
.
linseed oil dries slowly and shrinks little upon hardening. It does not cover the surface as varnish does, but soaks into the (visible and microscopic) pores, leaving a shiny but not glossy surface that shows off the grain of the wood.Because it fills the pores, linseed oil partially protects wood from denting by compression.
Several coats of linseed oil is the traditional protective coating for the raw willow wood of cricket bats. It is also used on billiards or pool
shafts
and used in place of epoxy to seal modern wooden surfboards. It can also be used on guitar, mandolin, or other stringed instrument's fret boards.
Linseed oil
is ideally suitable for interior / exterior use on most types of timber to prevent cracking and warping. It can also be used on indoor furniture, cabinetry, timber tool handles and wood sporting equipment.
Raw or Crude Linseed Oil
has a lower viscosity than Pale Boiled Linseed oil and will take a bit longer to completely dry and cure.
Packaging:
Available in 4 Litre cans.
Directions for Use:
Clean and dry timber surface. Mix 1:1 with Mineral Turpentine for extra timber penetration if required. Ally two coats with a brush, roller or airless spray gun. Clean excess oil after 30 minutes with a clean lint free cloth to avoid the surface drying sticky.
